Day 7: Still Making a Difference
John 13:17 (NLT)
"Now that you know these things, God will bless you for doing them."
Main Idea
After Elisha died, something extraordinary happened. Some Israelites were carrying a man out for burial when they were ambushed by raiders. In a panic, they threw the body into the closest tomb they could find — which happened to be Elisha’s. And the moment the dead man’s body touched Elisha’s bones, he came back to life and jumped to his feet.
Even after death, Elisha was still making a difference.
That’s one of the most beautiful pictures of legacy in the entire Bible. A life so poured out, so invested in God and in people, that its impact didn’t stop when the breathing did. And here’s what’s remarkable: Elisha wasn’t doing anything in that moment. He’d already done it. The seeds had already been planted. The investments had already been made. And God was still bringing life out of what Elisha had given.
That’s what happens when you live a life of bearing other people’s burdens. It echoes. The friend you walked through their darkest season — they’ll carry that with them forever. The person you helped when no one else would — they’ll pay it forward to someone you’ll never meet. The small, faithful, consistent decision to show up and carry weight that isn’t yours — it plants seeds that keep growing long after you’ve moved on.
Jesus said, “If you know these things, happy are you if you do them.” The happiness isn’t in the knowing. It’s in the doing. And the doing doesn’t just produce joy in the moment — it produces a legacy that outlasts you. This whole week has been building to this. You’ve thought about the brevity of life, the power of passion, the beauty of investing over consuming, the courage to walk into the mess, the faithfulness of ordinary offerings, and the freedom of making it about someone else.
Now it’s time to move. Not perfectly. Not impressively. Just faithfully. Pick up a burden this week. Carry it for someone who can’t carry it alone. And trust that God will take what you give and make it grow in ways you can’t predict and wouldn’t believe. Because the people who leave the greatest legacies aren’t the ones who consumed the most. They’re the ones who carried the most. And the joy on the other side is real.
What Else the Bible Says About This
- — You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.
- — And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
- — Now that I am old and gray, do not abandon me, O God. Let me proclaim your power to this new generation, your mighty miracles to all who come after me.
- — It was by faith that Abel brought a more acceptable offering to God than Cain did. Abel’s offering gave evidence that he was a righteous man, and God showed his approval of his gifts. Although Abel is long dead, he still speaks to us by his example of faith.
Let’s Apply This…
This is the last day. No more reading about it — it’s time to live it. Write down the name of one person whose burden you’re going to help carry this week. Then write down one specific, concrete thing you’re going to do for them. Not “someday.” This week. Put a date on it and follow through. It doesn’t have to be big. It just has to be real. A conversation. A sacrifice of time. A commitment to show up. Because Jesus promised that on the other side of doing these things is a happiness you can’t get any other way — and a legacy that keeps going long after the moment has passed.
God’s Message to You
“You want your life to matter? It already does — more than you know. But if you want it to echo, if you want it to still be bringing life to people long after your bracket has closed, then invest it. Pour it out. Give it away the way I gave mine away for you. Some of the people you serve will be messy. Some won’t say thank you. Some will disappoint you. Love them anyway. Because every burden you carry for someone else plants a seed I will never stop growing. That’s the kind of legacy I specialize in. And it starts with the next person you choose to help.”

Prayer
God, I don’t want to be someone who knew all the right things and never did any of them. I’ve been inspired this week. I’ve been moved. Now turn all of it into action. Give me the name, the moment, the courage. Help me carry what someone else can’t carry alone. Help me strike the ground with passion, invest instead of consume, walk into the mess with grace, and keep my eyes on others instead of myself. And when my bracket closes, let the echoes keep going. Let someone stand on their feet because of something you did through me. That’s the legacy I’m asking for — not because I’m great, but because you are. Amen.
Reflection Questions
- Elisha was still making a difference after he was gone. What kind of legacy do you want to leave? What are you doing right now to build it?
